Privacy Policy for SafeGuard USA
SafeGuard USA
Last Updated: September 3, 2026 | Operated by Kuora / Clarity Clinical Solutions LLC
1. Introduction
SafeGuard USA ("we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application and web service collect, use, and protect your information when you use our disaster preparedness, survival guides, and live hazard monitoring services.
2. Information We Collect
- Location Data (Optional): When you tap a location button and grant permission, the app requests a single location to calculate earthquake distances or include a location in your emergency message. The Live Hazards screen sends coordinates rounded to two decimal places to Open-Meteo for weather and air quality. Open-Meteo also receives normal connection information such as your IP address. We do not run a private location tracking server or request background location permission. If location is unavailable, choose a reference city or describe your location manually.
- Local Storage Data: Your customized 72-hour Go-Bag checklist items, household member count, language preference, and Family ICE plan are stored on your device for offline access. Family plans are also sent to Firebase only when you sign in, select cloud backup consent and save to the cloud.
- Emergency Contacts and SMS: Contact selection shares only the name and phone number you select. We do not request broad contacts access. Emergency messages open in your messaging app for your review; the app does not send SMS automatically.
- No Personal Identifiable Information (PII) Required: You do not need to create an account, register, or provide your name, phone number, or email address to use the core features of SafeGuard USA.
3. Third-Party Services & Open APIs
SafeGuard USA interacts with trusted public APIs to deliver real-time life safety data:
- United States Geological Survey (USGS): For real-time seismic and earthquake data feeds.
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA / NWS): For official severe weather alerts and hurricane tracks.
- Open-Meteo API: For real-time temperature, wind speed, and air quality (AQI) metrics.
- Amazon Associates Program: SafeGuard USA is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases."
4. Data Security & Offline Resilience
Family plan fields are saved in local browser/WebView storage. Local fields are not encrypted by the application. Optional account-based cloud backup uses Firebase Authentication, Firestore and our authenticated cloud functions. Plan data may include names, phone numbers, addresses and health information that you enter. Cloud saves use version checks to prevent overwriting another device’s changes. Device backup behavior depends on your operating system and settings. Bundled Android guides are available offline; map tiles and live feeds require network access.
Accounts, purchases, age signals and deletion
Optional accounts store your email and Firebase identity. Google Play purchase tokens are handled on the server to verify subscriptions and prevent fraud; tokens are not included in client-readable entitlement records. Age signals, when requested, are processed on the device to restrict guide media and are not sent to our server. Restore public keys are stored on our server; private restore keys are managed by Android. These features are available only when their services and device requirements are met.
Cloud plans remain until you delete them or delete your account. Use the account controls in Family Plan or the account deletion page. Account deletion removes cloud plans, restore public keys and your login account; it does not cancel Google Play subscriptions or erase local copies. Pseudonymous transaction and account hashes may be retained to prevent purchase replay. Short-lived restore challenges expire after five minutes; rate-limit records expire after one day and are subject to database TTL cleanup. We do not log raw purchase responses or restore credentials.
